Carlos Augusto: "We could have won but know how strong we are"

— WednesdayThe thoughts of the Nerazzurri wing-back after Inter's 1-1 draw with Monterrey in their Club World Cup opener
Inter began their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Monterrey on matchday 1 in Group E. The Mexican outfit opened the scoring midway through the first half through a Sergio Ramos header, but captain Lautaro Martinez equalised before half-time after being set up by Carlos Augusto. The Brazilian wing-back gave his thoughts after the match:
“South American sides are tough opponents because they fight for every ball. We started badly but then found our footing. We could have won, but now we have two more games to do well. Today, here in Los Angeles, we encountered a different pitch where the ball didn’t roll as smoothly, and it was very hot. I don’t like making excuses because these conditions apply to both teams. On a pitch like this, football isn’t quite as good, but we need to focus on improving. The new staff members have brought new ideas, and we all get along well. We know how strong we are and have to keep pushing forward.”
